Samsung TVs — LCD, LED, 4K, 8K, OLED, and older plasma sets — share a set of common problems with well-known fixes. This guide covers the most frequent ones — no power, black screen, reboot loops, apps not working, remote pairing failures, and stuck modes — with step-by-step solutions.

Find your symptom below — many fixes take minutes, no tools needed.
TV Won't Turn On: No Power or Black Screen
- Standby LED: If the red light under the screen is on or blinking, the TV has power. Blinking is an error code — look it up in our TV blinking codes guide.
- Power basics: Unplug the TV for 2–3 minutes, then plug it directly into a wall socket — not a power strip — and try another.
- Remote vs. panel: Test both the remote and the TV's own power button — dead batteries can mimic a dead TV.
- Unplug everything: Remove all HDMI, USB, and antenna cables, then power on — a faulty connected device can stop the TV from starting.
- Clicking or a brief backlight flash: Clicking, or a screen that flashes and dies, means failing power board or backlights — that needs a technician.
TV Keeps Restarting (Reboot Loop)
- Cold boot: Unplug the TV for 5 minutes, then plug it back in.
- Disconnect devices: Remove all HDMI and USB devices — a faulty stick or drive can trigger restarts.
- Update the software: If the TV stays on, go to Settings > Support > Software Update — our update LCD LED TV software guide covers the USB and online methods for all brands.
- Factory reset: If updates don't help, reset the TV (see the factory reset section below).
- Check ventilation: Overheating protection can force restarts — clear the vents.
If it still loops after a reset, the main or power board is likely failing — professional repair needed.
Apps Not Working / Smart Hub Problems
App freezes, failures, or missing apps are usually Smart Hub problems. Check the network first (Settings > General > Network > Network Status), then try the fixes below.
Reset the Smart Hub
With the source set to TV, go to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub (newer models: Settings > General > Reset), enter your PIN (default 0000), and confirm. All apps and accounts are wiped and the Hub reloads fresh — reinstall your apps afterward.
TV Plus tip: TV Plus channels that keep reappearing: Home > Samsung TV Plus > Remove.
Change the Smart Hub Region
If apps are missing or region-locked, changing the Smart Hub region reloads a different country's app store. On the Terms & Conditions screen, press 2-8-9 and pick your country. (F Series: Edit + Back + Vol Up + Vol Up + Back. K Series: Mute + Vol Up + Vol Up + Mute.)
Samsung Smart Remote Not Working
- Point the remote at the TV and hold one of these button pairs for 5 seconds (try each until it pairs): Return/Exit + Guide, Back/Return + Play, Back/Return + Pause, Return + Extra, or Exit + Extra.
- The TV shows a pairing confirmation when it connects. Still nothing? Replace the batteries, point at the TV's IR sensor, and rule out interference from nearby devices. If it still won't pair, a replacement Samsung remote or universal remote should work.
TV Stuck in Store (Demo) Mode
To switch back to Home mode: press Volume on the TV so the volume bar shows, then hold the Menu button on the side panel for about 10 seconds. Alternatively, switch the source to TV, open Menu > Settings > Plug and Play, and choose Home instead of Store Demo. Our TV store demo mode exit guide covers the same exit for other brands.
Factory Reset & Forgotten PIN
A full factory reset erases all settings, channels, apps, and accounts — note down key settings first. Go to Settings > General > Reset, enter your PIN (default 0000), and confirm.
Forgot Your PIN?
The default Samsung PIN is 0000. Changed it and forgot it? Reset from standby: press Mute > 8 > 2 > 4 > Power. The TV turns on with the PIN reset to 0000.
Stuck in Hotel Mode?
Hotel mode locks channels, inputs, and volume. Toggle it from standby with Mute > 1 > 1 > 9 > Enter (some models: Mute > 1 > 1 > Enter), then set Hotel Mode to Off.
